Eastwood MetroPark is a wonderful place for families, runners, nature lovers and all those who simply want to leave the chaos of the city.
The park offers various activities throughout the year. With 441 acres, the options are almost endless. The Buckey Trail passes right through the park. It is part of a 1,440-mile continuous loop that completely encircles Ohio.
This hike is great for intense hike lovers. Many find this hike very enjoyable and quite challenging. Local volunteers work closely with the land managers to promote the trail and maintain the trail’s blazes.
Also, if you like cycling, from this location you can link to the Mad River Trail, Creekside Trail, Iron Horse Trail and Stillwater River Trail. These trails are great for users with diverse natural experiences on bicycles, foot, skates, wheelchairs or strollers, as well as connecting communities.
Besides walking, cycling or running, visitors are more than welcome to rent a boat and sail the lake or enjoy some fishing. For those who love their pets, especially dogs, this place is the way to go. Vast meadows and various trees create a fairytale-like feeling and offer freedom for our four-legged friends.
In this area of the city, birds have found their sanctuary. In the park, we can see and hear migratory bird populations, including waterfowl, osprey, shorebirds, and gulls. Listen to the recording above and enjoy their singing.
In my opinion, Eastwood is the perfect spot to mentally unplug. Listen to the sounds of nature and enjoy the beautiful views. I especially admire the stone bridges, which add some sophisticated vibe to the park. The little piers are cute and great if you want to kayak. In the park, there are several shelters and picnic tables just perfect for a family brunch, lunch or hangout. Just recently, the kids’ playground was renovated and reopened.
Enjoying nature comes in many ways. For each person, the relationship with nature is different. The only important thing we all must follow is to preserve it. The Five Rivers MetroPark system emphasizes the importance of preserving nature in the Dayton area.
What is your favorite activity in a park? Do you have a favorite park in the Dayton area? Do you go to parks often? What do you appreciate about the parks the most?
